SCA Announces New Surcharges Adjustments Effective from July 15, 2026
In June 2026, the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has announced a new round of raise transit surcharges effective July 15, 2026. These adjustments target all major vessel categories including bulk carriers, container ships and oil tankers. Taking dry bulk carriers as an example, prior to this adjustment, dry bulk carriers only paid base transit tolls plus an additional 10% surcharge. Since July 15, this surcharge ratio has increased to 22%, representing a 120% relative increase.
The SCA clarified these surcharges adjustment are temporary measures. It will continuously monitor shipping volume fluctuations and dynamically adjust the charging standards based on its assessment of global shipping market conditions, flexibly modifying surcharge ratio at its discretion.
