China and Singapore sign an MOU on the Management of International Commercial Disputes in the Context of the Belt and Road Initiative through a Litigation-Mediation-Litigation Framework

An MOU on the management of international commercial disputes in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative through a Litigation-Mediation-Litigation framework was signed between the Supreme People's Courts of the People's Republic of China and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Singapore on 1st April.

Ms. Tao Kaiyuan, Justice and Vice President of the Supreme People's Court of China, and Ms. Belinda Ang Saw Ean, Justice of the Court of Appeal of the Supreme Court of Singapore, representing the two courts individually, signed the MOU at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Recognizing the increasing complexity of disputes relating to international trade and commerce in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Supreme People's Court of China and the Supreme Court of Singapore strengthened cooperation on the management of BRI international commercial disputes through a Litigation-Mediation-Litigation Framework, and have entered into the MOU, to promote the ties of friendship between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Singapore and high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, offer flexible, creative and efficient ways to resolve such disputes.

The MOU provides development and implementation of LML framework, collaboration with other parties, sharing of information, features of LML framework, LML model clauses etc, and shall come into effect on the date of its signature.
